Biography:
Juhi Chawla, after being crowned Miss India in 1984, became a top actressof the 90s. This bubbly Punjabi with a great smile and sense of humour wonaudiences with her warmth and down to earth attitude. Her comic timing wascompared to Sridevi, who she cites as her idol. Though she made her debut muchearlier in Sultanat which bombed, her big movie was Qayamat se Qayamat Tak withAamir Khan in 1988 which went on to become a huge hit. She and Aamir becamesuperstars overnight and were a much sought after pair. Their pairing broughtsuper hit results again in Ishq in ’97.
She acted in some other movies like Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke, Raju Ban GayaGentleman, Eeena Meena Deeka, Darr, Daraar, Yes Boss and Phir Bhi Dil haiHindustani. She also started the production company, Dreamz Unlimited with ShahRukh Khan and Aziz Mirza. The company has been converted to Red ChilliesEntertainment. Juhi and SRK became friends during Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman andthe chemistry showed in Yes Boss and Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani.
Juhi was very close to her mother, Mona, who passed away in Praguebecause of an accident during the shooting of Duplicate in 1997. She marriedindustrialist Jay Mehta in ’98 and has a six year old daughter Jhanvi with himalong with a son. Post marriage, she left Bollywood for a while and returned todo art house cinema. Her performances in 3 Deewarein, My Brother Nikhil, paheliand Swami have been much appreciated. Her last commercial outings were Salaam eIshq with Anil Kapoor and Salman Khan and the recent Bhoothnath with MrBachchan and SRK. She also sang for the movie.
She also shares the ownership of the IPL club Kolkata Knight Riders withher husband Jay and best buddy Shah Rukh.
